Greetings!
Fall is here -- we can't believe it either! This month at Kidstock we have tons of great back to school stuff. We have also put out three racks of winter jackets. We know it's hard to shop for warm clothing when it is hot outside, but you know you are going to need a jacket, we have them ready to go, and there are some great deals to be had!
And congratulations to our August grand prize winner! Miranda J. won a $30 Kidstock store credit. We will have more contests and different events throughout the year, so keep reading our newsletter to stay in the know! |
Reminders
* For those of you lucky enough to be planning vacations to warm, sunny spots in the fall and winter, rest assured that Kidstock will be able to supply you with appropriate kid clothing. We take clothing out of season so that if you need a bathing suit for Hawaii in December, we will have it. (You lucky duck! Take us with you!)
* Jackets are on the floor! We have snow, ski, rain, and fancy jackets available. We also have several snow pants and complete outfits available on our jacket racks. Right now we have quite a mix of "designer" label jackets available along with the popular Gap/Old Navy outerwear. We've also started to hang sweaters, sweatshirts, and even some Christmas dresses!
* Costumes: We get requests for costumes almost every day. While we have a stash ready to go for October and March, we do try to keep a selection out on the floor all the time. If you need something special, please call before you come in so we can pull some choices for you. At Kidstock we are very impressed with all the parents who encourage imaginative playtime with their kids on a daily basis!
* Personal shopping: Do you have a special, specific need for an item of clothing or toy? (i.e., "My child is in a play and he absolutely needs a purple elk costume." Or, "My child is not in a play, but he insists on having a purple elk costume." We've heard both!) We can search our storage area for you, but we need a few days lead time. Please call ahead of time with specific requests and we will do our best to help you out.
* We are continuing to take bags of clothing. Please remember that we don't take stained or ripped clothing. We are accepting small furniture items and toys now as well. All clothing should be recently laundered and free of crud and pet hair. (Sadly, we do have to keep reiterating this point! See the next yellow section.) We will not be taking books until January.
* Have you noticed what a kid-friendly place our little block on Pico is turning into? Anchored by Children's Book World and the flower/balloon store on the east end, the orthodontist, then Kidstock (of course!), then R Creative Space (ballet, fine arts, music -- a shout out to Miss Elinor, ballet teacher extrordinare!), and then Adam's Music on the west end. Of course, we can't leave out the dog grooming store, the bead store, hairdresser/spa/nail salon, shoe repair, Dominos and the Chinese restaurant, F&S, not to mention the Mac repair place and our newest neighbor, right next to Kidstock, a PC repair/service station. Next month we will highlight our wonderful and kid-friendly neighbors on the north side of the street!
* Kidstock will be closed on Monday, September 6, in honor of Labor Day.

What we accept from you
Just a few reminders on what Kidstock accepts from customers and how we process it. First, you should know that we have a giant backlog of items. We don't always accept in every size because of that. However, resale wouldn't be the joy that it is if (a) you couldn't get some store credit for your gently used clothing; and (b) we couldn't look at the fun stuff our customers are bringing in. That said, we are a small business, and all the time we have to spend on sorting through clothing that is stained, ripped, or tossed haphazardly in a bag takes away from time we could use to do more productive things. Therefore, a few hints so that you know what will get you more credit at Kidstock. 1. We take more items from bags that have neatly folded and super clean clothing. If we can smell the dryer sheet scent, we are pretty sure we are going to take a good portion of the merchandise. And not to put too fine a point on it, but we will take more items from a super clean, neatly folded bag of Target/Old Navy clothing than a stained, wrinkled group of items with designer labels. We also reject items with obvious pet hair as we have many clients with animal allergies. All this is to say that if you are going to the effort of bringing in a bag, please make sure that it is in such condition that you would personally buy it. 2. We love full outfits -- matching shirts, pants, hats, etc. We have trouble resisting those. Again, seasonal concerns are irrelevant as we have lots of customers wanting bathing suits in December and costumes all year long. 3. Funky, cool, interesting clothing is a winner. We have a ton of Circo and Old Navy backlog. However, even if your clothing is super clean, we may not take those items just because we have so much of it. For example, we almost always take boys 5, 6, 7 sized clothing. (We never have enough of it. For some reason, boys of this age/size lose the knees of their clothing the minute they put it on. Having one of those ourselves here at Kidstock, we understand the problem intimately!) On the other hand, we have way too much of girls size 4. But, of course, if it's cute and clean, we'll always take more! 4. We take toys. We won't take them if they are broken, missing pieces, or look over-used. Again, preference is given to interesting, unusual, or wood items. 5. Baby gear: Please call before you bring in larger items to make sure we have room. Preference goes to items from smoke-free/pet-free homes and super-clean, gently used items. As of this week, we have room for an exersaucer, a high chair, and a Pac n Play. |

We send you good wishes for the new school year, Labor Day, and the upcoming Jewish High Holy Days. Thanks again for all the postive comments on Jen's List, Peach Head, and Daily Candy. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,,
The Kidstock Team -- Melna, Tony, Leslie, and Jenny |

Boredom Busters and Crafters Corner
Look at Me Game!
Have your child observe you for a minute. Leave the room . Return to the room, having changed a small detail in your appearance. Remove an earring, put on some lipstick or change your hair. Can they guess? Slightly older kids can even take a turn with this and see if mom or dad can find the change!
Thanks to Suzanne M. for this submission. Suzanne gets a $5 Kidstock store credit for her fun idea!
Crafters, Bordom Busters, and Other Fun Ideas. Submit an idea at info@kidstockla.com and, if we use your Crafter or Buster in another newsletter, we'll give you $5 store credit! Your Buster should appeal to both boys and girls and should include an appropriate age range. Use "Crafter or Buster" in your subject line. |
