June 2016
Welcome to Kidstock!

Greetings!
Happy June, everyone!  School is almost over and now it's time for some summer fun.  Don't delay your visit to Kidstock to get your summer necessities.  Of course we have shorts and tees, but don't forget about light long sleeves and hoodies for those cool nights and June gloom we often have.  And now is a great time to make sure you have an extra pair of sandals or water shoes -- or even snow boots if you want to work ahead!

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kidstock's Big News!

Think you can do Kidstock better than we can?  We KNOW you can!  Kidstock is officially for sale and we are ready for the right person/people to come into our lives and take it to the next level.  We've loved building this business, but it's time for us to find other challenges.

If you've always wanted your own business and think you could push this one to greater heights, we want to talk to you.   We have recently been contacted by a customer who would like to speak with other parents about the possibility of transitioning Kidstock into a co-op, collective, or non-profit.  We are happy to connect all parties who might be on board with such a plan.

If you are a current customer, please know that we take seriously our responsibility as owners -- we have no intention of shutting the doors without notice.  Our goal is to transition the store by this summer.   We will keep you posted about this news as we move forward.

For all serious inquiries, please contact Josh Katzman at josh@katzmanassociates.com.

Reminders

* We are currently accepting drop-offs of all types through the end of June.  Please remember that, as is our custom, during July and August we will not be accepting clothing (but we will take toys and small furniture).  We use this time to reorganize our existing backlogged inventory.  Even though we use the summer months to organize, we also hang new items from our backstock every day, so you will always find something interesting when you shop.  Our transition plans (for the sale of the store) are in flux as of this writing, but we anticipate that, as we transition or sell Kidstock, during the fall, we will continue to not accept any drop offs until further notice.

* Shopping tip: If you are shopping without your kids, bring clothing with you that currently fits. That way you can compare length and width with more confidence.

* Patootie Cakes are available in the store. You can grab and go with these already wrapped diaper cakes -- perfect for a new baby hospital visit or as a shower gift. These come from an outside vendor, so store credit may not be used for your purchase. To view a picture, go to www.patootiecakes.com. You can specialty order from the site and pick up at Kidstock to avoid shipping and handling charges.

* Happy Father's Day on June 19 to all our Kidstock dads, granddads, bonus dads,

and uncles!

* Kidstock will be closed Tuesday, June 7 from 12pm-3pm.

Toys for Tots

As most of you know, for organizational purposes and ease of shopping, at Kidstock we separate our clothing into boys and girls categories.  But what about the toys?  Why are those not separated by boys and girls?

While we have an informal toy separation on our shelves, it tends to be more by category than by gender.  For example, we like to keep all the puzzles in one place, regardless of whether they are depicting princesses or construction equipment.  Todder toys are usually grouped together.  All the baby dolls are in one place, as are the toy cars.

Yeah, we know about those gender stereotypes, but we sure don't buy into them.  Based on what we see every day at Kidstock, we are pretty sure we have lots of girl customers who like the trucks and lots of boy customers who want a pink doll stroller.  And we love our Kidstock parents who are savvy enough to realize that all play is learning, no matter the toy of choice.

 Rainbow Bubble Snakes

Materials:

* empty water bottle

* duct tape or rubber band

* sock missing its match

* dish soap

* food coloring

Directions

Cut off the bottom of the water bottle.  Slide the sock over the bottom of the bottle and use duct tape and/or rubber band to secure it in place.  Pour some dish soap in a shallow container with a little water.  Dip the sock covered bubble blower into the solution and then gently blow.  Add food coloring directly on to the sock and see what kind of rainbows you can get.

Remind younger kids to blow and not suck.  It probably won't hurt them, but it won't taste great either.  Also, food coloring can stain some clothing, so make sure you are appropriately dressed (or undressed!) for this activity.
