Kidstock

June 2012
Welcome to Kidstock

Greetings!
Happy June, everyone!  Summer is here and we have lots of shorts and tank tops on our racks.  Unlike those major retailers, though, we ALSO have long sleeves and light jackets -- you  know what SoCal is like if you live here through the warm days and cooler nights.   Of course, the best way to get warm is to hug your dad -- happy Father's Day to all our Kidstock dads!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
Patootie Cakes

What are Patootie Cakes, you ask?  They are diaper cakes, perfect gifts for baby showers or new parents.  And unlike the rest of our inventory, these "cakes" are not pre-used, gently used, or recycled -- they are brand new disposable diapers formed into totally cute cakes and cupcakes, already wrapped as a gift and ready to go.  We have a limited amount of these items in the store ready for pick up.  You can also order a custom-made cake on the Patootie Cakes website, www.patootiecakes.com, and pick up at Kidstock, saving yourself some shipping charges.  Patootie Cake

In the store we have three-tier cakes, two-tier cakes, and cupcakes (our favorite!) which are very affordable and fun.  Diaper cakes never fail to bring a smile to a new parent's face, and -- trust us! -- you can NEVER have too many diapers.  And best of all, the cake is already wrapped in clear cellophane and pretty ribbon, ready for present-giving.  So the next time you need a gift, large or small, for a family with a new addition, we hope you will choose a Kidstock Patootie Cake.

Please note that you cannot use your store credit for this item as it's from an outside vendor, but you can use your store coupons for a nice discount.

Reminders
*  We will not be accepting clothing during July and August.  We use this time to update and organize our existing inventory.  We will still accept toys and small furniture.

*  We want to welcome our new neighbor on Pico -- Art Zone Children's Studio.  They are located next door to Island's Restaurant at 10944 W. Pico Bl.  We are always excited to get another kid-oriented destination in our area.  (Please see our archived January 2012 newsletter for an article about many more kid-friendly businesses on Pico).

*  "Pick Pico" is coming!  During the weekend of June 1-3, various merchants on Pico Blvd. will be welcoming their neighbors and offering discounts.  We have Pick Pico flyers in our store or you can check out the website at www.wncla.org.

*  When shopping for pants without your kids, bring in a pair that currently fit your child correctly.   As kids get bigger, it's a much harder item to eyeball.

Messy Art Project:
Plate Bubbles
(or, as we like to call it, the 20 minute project that allows us to get dinner on the table!)

We've shared this one before, but it's our favorite and we like to revisit it every now and again because it's so much fun for kids at every age.  And dinner's not going to make itself now, right?  Heck, because this project is so much fun, Mrs. Kidstock sometimes joins the kids for this one and then we go OUT to dinner!

Items Needed:
Dinner Plate
Squirt of dish soap
Water
Straw

Put a squirt of dish soap on a regular plate. Add water to just below the rim of the plate. Use a straw to blow bubbles in the water. See how many bubbles you can get on the plate, or if you can just blow one big bubble. (Hint: for easy clean up, put a dish towel under the plate.)

Variations:
* If you have more than one kid doing this, move the plates close together and see if they can build a bubble bridge across their plates.
* Have some food color?  Let kids pick a color to add to their water or mix colors together.

Caution with kids under 3 as they may suck up the water instead of blowing out, which won't be so much harmful as taste really bad!
