Kidstock
May 2015
Welcome to Kidstock!

Greetings!
It's May and we are so happy that spring is really here. . .  sort of.  We are hanging more shorts and fewer sweaters, and not taking ANY raincoats off the racks.   We have plenty of fleece and light jackets in the store, which are right next to the bathing suits.  We promise that you are not the only parent purchasing long sleeves and shorts at the same time.

We've had a lot of new friends sign up for our newsletter this month, so if this is your first time reading, welcome!

Happy May, everyone!  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Reminders

*  We are currently accepting drop-offs of all types.  Please remember that during July and August we will not be accepting clothing (but we will take toys and small furniture).  We use this time to reorganize our existing backlogged inventory.  Even though we use the summer months to organize, we also hang new items from our backstock every day, so you will always find something interesting when you come in.
When dropping off, you do not need to worry about whether the clothing is seasonally appropriate or not. Please do worry, however, about the clothing being clean, not ripped or stained, and games and toys being complete and working. If you would not buy it in its current condition, neither will we.
Please do not overstuff your bags/bins! Overstuffed bags often tear, and clothing can get dirty, stained, or lost. Bags with carefully folded clothing get more store credit than overstuffed bags with carelessly treated items.

* Shopping tip: If you are shopping without your kids, bring clothing with you that currently fits them. That way you can compare length and width with more confidence.

* Patootie Cakes are available in the store. You can grab and go with these already wrapped diaper cakes -- perfect for a new baby hospital visit or as a shower gift. These come from an outside vendor, so store credit may not be used for your purchase. To view a picture, go to www.patootiecakes.com. You can specialty order from the site and pick up at Kidstock to avoid shipping and handling charges.

*  We want to wish all our customers a very Happy Mother's Day (Sunday, May 10)!

*  Kidstock will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

"Pick Pico" Returns Sunday, June 7, 2015

Sponsored by the Westside Neighborhood Council, "Pick Pico" is a fun family event that highlights all the great local businesses along Pico Boulevard.   While we all turn to big box stores and internet shopping for convenience, if you like the idea of keeping mom-and-pop, brick and mortar stores in your neighborhood, please come out to support those businesses on Sunday, June 7.  This year each participating vendor will have a table or booth in the Chase parking lot on the corner of Overland and Pico.  There will be food, entertainment, and tons of stuff for kids to do, plus lots of freebies and samples.  Please stop by the Kidstock table and say hi!    You can find out more about the festival and see pictures from last year at www.pickpico.org.

Tie Dye High

Ingredients

large coffee filters -- whatever you can find in bulk at the 99 Cent store

Sharpies

spray bottle with water in it

Directions

Caution up front -- this gets messy and Sharpies stain, so cover your work space!

Draw designs of any sort on coffee filters -- shapes, lines, flowers, etc.

On top of some type of protection, or outside on the sidewalk, spray water on the filters.  The Sharpie design will blend and swirl into tie dye type designs.  The filter will dry pretty quickly, however.  If you make a large amount of coffee filters, they look great as an asymmetrical abstract work of art on the wall.
