April 2013
Greetings!
Happy April, everyone!  Spring has sprung and we are ready to change our racks from winter gear to sundresses and shorts.  However, it's so cold outside that we are still selling more jackets and fleeces than tanks.  What's a resale store to do?  The only answer is to have both ready to go.

So come on in during April.  We promise to have something ready for you, "weather" you are warm or cold.   We look forward to seeing you soon!
Reminders

*  We are accepting bags at this time -- don't worry about whether the clothing is seasonally appropriate or not.  Please do worry, however, about the clothing being clean, not ripped or stained, and games and toys being complete and working.   If you would not buy it in its current condition, neither will we.
Please do not overstuff your bags/bins!  Overstuffed bags often tear, and clothing can get dirty, stained, or lost.  Bags with carefully folded clothing get more store credit than overstuffed bags with carelessly treated items.

*  Shopping tip:  If you are shopping without your kids, bring clothing with you that currently fits them.  That way you can compare length and width with more confidence.

 * Kidstock's return policy has changed. You may still bring in returns within one week as long as the tags are attached and you have the original receipt. However, we will no longer be giving cash or credit card returns. All returns, no matter how the items were purchased, will be for store credit only.

* The parking situation behind Kidstock has changed temporarily. If you usually park behind our store and not on the street, please note that there is a giant green storage bin in one of our spaces. You are welcome to park behind it, or in one of the tandem spots directly east of the bin. All the other spaces belong to our neighbors. The spaces are compact, so please be conscious of how you park so as to allow for as many cars as possible to fit in. (The bin is temporary until we finalize our storage situation.)

* Patootie Cakes are available in the store. You can grab and go with these already wrapped diaper cakes -- perfect for a new baby hospital visit or as a shower gift. These come from an outside vendor, so store credit may not be used for your purchase. To view a picture, go to www.patootiecakes.com. You can specialty order from the site and pick up at Kidstock to avoid shipping and handling charges

Every Day is Earth Day at Kidstock

One of the most remarkable celebrations each year happens in April.  This month includes the celebration of Earth Day, and the Earth Day mandate tracks many of the guiding principles of what we hope to accomplish every day at Kidstock.

We agree it's great to save money and purchase gently used, pre-owned clothing for a fraction of what you'd pay new -- clearly savvy parents are in tune with this idea.  But what about the fact that every time you choose recycled clothing over new, you are engaging in recycling and waste reduction?  What does it say about your family when you choose to repurpose or reuse, rather than waste both materials and money?  What lessons do you teach your children when you show them that just because it costs more, does not mean that it IS more, or better?

So on this Earth Day 2013, we at Kidstock salute our amazing customers who not only talk the talk about small steps that save the world, but also walk the walk by including Kidstock in their everyday Act of Green efforts.

Sincerely,

Messy April Art

Ball Painting -- This is NOT for the faint of heart!

Materials:

Large sheet of paper

Tempera paints

balls -- tennis or ping pong or whatever you have on hand

optional -- dish soap, paint brushes

Directions:

Coat balls in various colors of paint.  Have kids bounce the balls on paper for a version of splatter/bounce art.  If you have a wall in your yard or driveway, you can bounce the balls against it.  (Theoretically the paint will wash off with a hose, but you may want to test this on your surface first!)  If you mix a dash of dish soap in the paints before using, washing (kids and walls) should be easier.

If you have your kids dressed in bathing suits before you attempt the ball art, you can finish up the paint by having the kids paint one another.  If you have added dish soap to the paints, turn a hose on your kids and clean up should be easy.  (Plus the kids will smell good ;-) )
