Kidstock

January 2014

Greetings!
Happy 2014, everyone!  Kidstock hopes that this new year brings you and yours a year filled with health and happiness, along with lots of fun clothing and toys.  Our shelves are filled and our racks are full -- come shopping soon!.
It's in the Bag, Again

We've written about this before and now it's finally here -- the plastic bag ban has officially become law in the city of L.A.  Kidstock-size stores are not required to comply with the ban, but we always like to help save the planet if we can.

When our current supply of bags runs out, we will no longer be supplying plastic bags for purchases.  We are always happy to supply a previously used bag of any type when we have them, so feel free to ask for one.  Better yet, bring your own!  At least two-thirds of our customers either bring their own bag or don't use one, and we are aiming to get that figure to 100% as soon as possible.

Congratulations to the City of L.A. and their efforts to change the culture of how we use our natural resources in our everyday lives.
Reminders

* We are accepting bags with clothing, toys, and small furniture items.  Items do not need to be seasonal.  You may drop off at any time, although we do ask that you limit yourself to 1-2 (non-ripped, not too heavy) bags at a time.  Please remember that we do not accept stained or torn items.  Games/puzzles must be complete.  **Heads up notice:  we will not be accepting drop-offs this year during July and August.  Plan ahead!

*  We can no longer use your store credit as payment towards the sales tax portion of your purchase.  We are required to collect that portion of the sale in actual cash.

*  Kidstock will be open regular hours on MLK day, January 20.

*  A great tip worth repeating:  If you are shopping without your kids, bring a pair of pants with you that fit him/her well.  That way you can measure the length/waist against something in the store and have a better idea of sizing.

* Don't forget to check out Patootie Cakes for a unique and fun shower centerpiece or new parent gift.  Visit www.patootiecakes.com, order, and get free S/H when you pick up at Kidstock.  Additional discounts are offered if you pay in cash.

* Kidstock will not be at the Motor/National Farmer's Market through the winter and spring, but we hope to make another appearance during the summer/fall.  Please visit the market to see all the fun kid activities available every Sunday (9am to 2pm), from art to bunnies and ponies to trains.  This market is a great one to bring kids to as it is small and always has fun kid stuff to do without long lines.   In the meantime, we are working on bringing the $1 rack back to the store, so stay tuned for more info.

Messy January Art Project
Tasty Fingerpaint Recipe

As many of you know, we at Kidstock love messy art and we especially love when the art is good enough to eat.  Here is a simple project that combines it all!

Supplies:
plain yogurt
Kool Aid in several colors (or flavors!  For green, mix blue and yellow.)
brushes/paper

Mix a couple scoops of yogurt with about a half package of Kool Aid.  The consistency should be great for fingerpainting or body painting.  Have a bathtub handy before you start for quick clean up!  (The fingerpaint won't taste good, btw, as neither of these food items have sugar in them to start with, but no one will get hurt by eating it, either.)
