Kidstock

January 2011
Greetings!
Happy New Year!  We hope that this newsletter finds you rested and relaxed from the holidays and ready to start a new year of shopping!  Kidstock is ready to welcome you back whenever you have time to drop in.

January finds us celebrating MLK Day, National Blood Donor Month, the Super Bowl, and, on January 29th,  National Puzzle Day (seriously, Google it!)  See below for our special January coupon focusing on puzzles.  After all, we would not want to let this month go by without honoring it some way!

During January we still have winter wear ready to go, and as always we have new items being put out every day.  We are always accepting bags (one, please -- don't overwhelm us!) and usually we are able to turn around your credit in less than two days.

We look forward to seeing you soon.  Happy National Puzzle Day!

Reminders

* Our $1 dollar rack is still going strong.  Sometime during January we will be removing the dollar rack to make room for women's size clothing as well as some maternity items.  For those of you who have store credit and picky children, this is a great chance to shop for yourself!  Don't worry, though, as the dollar rack will be making a return next month.

* We are continuing to take bags of clothing.  Please remember that we don't take stained or ripped clothing.  If you wouldn't buy it as is, we probably won't either.  We are accepting small furniture items and toys now as well.   We can't accept everything, so we appreciate your timeliness in picking up your bags within a few days after drop off so that we have room to accept bags from others.  Or, if you prefer, we can donate for you whatever items we can't take.

*Our previous newsletters are archived.  You can access them from our website at www.kidstockla.com  September 2010's newsletter contained very detailed information about how we take clothing.  Please see that newsletter for more information about how Kidstock processes your gently used kid items.

* We will be open Monday, January 17th, MLK Day.  Please remember that our regular business hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
Thank you, as always, for your patronage of Kidstock.  Please remember that the best way to support us is not only by shopping with us (of course!) but by letting your friends and family know about us.  Shout out's on Peach Head, Jen's List, City Mama, Facebook, etc., all help bring in new Kidstock shoppers for us.  As a matter of fact, if you forward this newsletter to just two friends, you will have done your bit for publicizing Kidstock today.  Your word of mouth is the best kind of advertising we have!

We wish you and yours all the best in 2011.

Sincerely,

Melna, Leslie, Tony, Jenny, and Sabrina

The Alphabet Soup Game

This works great if you have a few kids over for a playdate.  However, it is also a fun activity if you need to entertain your own kids while you get dinner ready.  Kids can play in teams or individually and it can be tailored to the reading ability of the kids present.

Give each kid or team of kids a platter or plate and a can or two of alphabet soup.  (Open the can for them and pour into a bowl so there are no sharp edges.)  Each team must sift through the goo to spell words or make numbers.

You can give points a number of ways:
  - words of three letters
  - words of four letters
  - words with five or more letters
 - words you dictate orally
 - the biggest word gets a lot of points
- for younger kids, you can have them find letters or numbers in random order

Variations:  A time frame to accomplish a certain list (maybe 5 minutes or so).
Less messy option: you can use a box of Alphabits cereal.  (Although why you would want a less messy option is beyond us!)
