Greetings!
We can hardly believe that November is upon us -- the weather is just starting to cool down and school is now routine. November brings us Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and National Peanut Butter month. Whatever celebrations you encounter this month, we hope that you will drop by Kidstock for your kids' clothing needs.
We look forward to seeing you soon! |
Filter Tip
In our ongoing quest to have a more environmentally and fiscally light footprint, we offer you the following tips that both save money and cut down on waste.
Purchase coffee filters in bulk at the dollar store and use them instead of paper towels. You get about a gazillion in the package, and you can use them for:
* Covering food in the microwave to cut down on mess.
* Cleaning windows or dusting other areas -- filters are lint-free so you won't have any residue left behind.
* Lining potted plants -- they will allow water to escape but will keep the soil in.
* Deep frying -- or even lightly frying -- food. You can line a plate with them to absorb grease.
* They are useful for art. Draw a design with Sharpie pens on them, then lightly spray with a water mister bottle. The ink will run, creating beautiful tie-dye designs. Mrs. Kidstock once spent a rainy weekend stuck indoors with her kids creating about a hundred of these, then we put them all up, overlapping, on a white wall, creating a fascinating (and dizzying!) collage. Make sure you work on newspaper until the coffee filter dries, otherwise you will end up with Sharpie ink on your wall and table. (Really, trust us on this!)
There are many other uses for coffee filters. If you've used this versatile item before, please let us know your favorites! |
Black Friday Sales
On Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24, we will once again commandeer one of our parking spaces outside in order to bring you a VERY large selection of our shoe inventory. As if that were not enough of an incentive to stop by, we will also put up extra racks of our backlog of winter jackets. And just to sweeten the deal, we are offering coupons for both of those items! Kidstock would love to be one of your stops on your Black Friday shopping rounds.
Additionally, we want to clean out some of our Halloween costumes during November. Choose any animal-themed costume and get 20% off. Just ask us at checkout BEFORE we ring you up. Offer is valid all month. (We still have an awesome rooster costume in the store which could kind of work as a turkey if you squint your eyes and tilt your head a bit . . .)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
In the event of rain, our parking lot sale cancels but the coupons will still be valid for items inside the store. |
Reminders
* We are currently accepting bags of clothing, toys, etc. We process most drop-offs within two to three days, so we'd be grateful if you could make arrangements to pick up what is not accepted within a week. We have very limited storage space.
* Please note that that we take very little infant clothing (up to 12 months). Clearly, infant clothing is the cutest thing ever, and we wish we could take more than we do. But most new moms get tons of clothing as gifts, and consequently we don't sell as much in this category. It's not that your infant clothes aren't cute or in great shape -- they are! -- it's that we just don't have the room to store or display the overwhelming amount that we see.
* Don't forget to make use of our Battery Bucket near the back door. Batteries should never go into regular trash. If you don't e-cycle batteries on your own, we are happy to take care of it for you.
* Patootie Cakes are still available in the store. Don't forget that you can grab and go with these already wrapped diaper cakes -- pefect for a new baby hospital visit or as a shower gift. These come from an outside vendor, so store credit may not be used for your purchase. To view a picture, go to www.patootiecakes.com. You can specialty order from the site and pick up at Kidstock to avoid shipping and handling charges.
* Kidstock will be open Monday, November 12, Veteran's Day. We will be closed Thursday, November 22 for Thanksgiving, but will be open regular hours on Friday, November 23rd and Saturday, November 24th. |

Messy Thanksgiving Craft
Oreo and Candy Corn Turkeys
This is one of our favorite messy crafts for the Kidstock family. Mostly because after we assemble all the supplies, we eat more than we create. Really, no downside there! Materials needed: *Giant package of Oreo cookies (you won't need them all, but you will want to eat some whilst creating your turkeys. Generic brands work fine too.) *Rainbow Goldfish crackers (you can use the healthy ones or the non-healthy ones. Again, plan on some snacking here too. As long as they are red-ish and shaped like a fish, you are good) *prepared chocolate frosting in a can (do you need any commentary on this item?) *Graham crackers (you need a square shape so you can either buy the long ones and break them in half or Ralph's brand graham crackers come as a square.) *Candy corn or Indian corn (tricolored, triangle shaped candies. Buy these on sale right after Halloween is over!)
Stick the pointed end of the candy between the two sides of the Oreo cookie. Use 5-7 pieces of candy corn. Sometimes the cookie cracks, but you can still use them. You have to wiggle the edge of the cookie apart a bit, but the frosting should hold the candy in place. This takes a bit of a gentle touch to get just right.
Put a little chocolate frosting on one edge of the red goldfish. Stick this on, tail down, on the top portion of the Oreo cookie.
Put a generous dollop of chocolate frosting in the center of the graham cracker square.
Stick the decorated Oreo cookie onto the frosting so it stands upright.
